How To: Make Toor Dal Kofta For A Special Family Dinner

We’re back with another interesting recipe by our favourite gal Vidhi Doshi. And if you’re been following her recipes for some time, you know she is too good with her curries! This week she tried out her toor dal kofta recipe and it looked like the perfect meal to cook for the family for dinner. What You’ll Need

2 1/2 cups soaked toor dal (soaked for 8 hours)

1 finely chopped onion

1 tsp cumin seeds

1/4 tsp hing

1 tsp chilli powder

1/2 cup chopped coriander

1 tsp baking powder

Salt to taste

2 tbsp oil/ghee

3 cloves

2 cardamom pods

1 inch of cinnamon stick

1 black cardamom

1 tbsp ginger garlic paste

1 cup onion paste

1/4 cup cashew paste

1 1/2 tsp chilli powder

1 1/2 tsp coriander powder

1 tsp curry powder

2 cups tomato puree

1 cup of water

1 1/2 tsp garam masala

1 tbsp kasuri methi

3 tbsp cream

Here How You Can Put It All Together

Step 1: Add the dal to a blender jar and grind into a smooth paste.

Step 2: Transfer the paste to a bowl, add the onions, cumin seeds, hing, salt, coriander, and baking powder. Mix well.

Step 3: Oil your palms and shape the batter into koftas.

Step 4: Deep fry the koftas, a few at a time, till golden brown. Keep aside.

Step 5: Heat ghee in a nonstick pan, add the whole spices and sauté for a minute.

Step 6: Add the ginger garlic paste and sauté for 1-2 minutes.

Step 7: Now add the onion and the cashew paste, mix well, and cook for 4-5 minutes.

Step 8: Add the chilli, coriander and curry powder and cook for 3-4 minutes.

Step 9: Now add the tomato purée and water, cover and cook for 10 minutes. Add the garam masala, kasuri methi and salt and cook for another 7-8 minutes.

Step 10: Right before serving, mix in the koftas and the cream and serve hot.
